I am the class teacher Primary Seven class. I have been teaching at Bwindi Junior School for four years now. The year 2021 was good especially in our academics. All our children performed very well and passed exams above average.
We were the second best in our district and we are leading in English and Mathematics subjects. My teaching subject is English. I love working with Bwindi Eco Children Uganda and our payments these days are very prompt. I use my salary to meet my personal and family needs. I have been able to send my two sons to secondary school, and we are always informed that we have been able to receive our salaries because of support from Bwindi Uganda Children Charities (BUCC).
We love you the people of America for your generosity always.
When my father rejected us in 2018, I had lost hope of going back to school. I thought learning had come to an end because life became hard for me and my two young siblings. I stopped working and started working in the neighbors’ farms for food for myself and my two sisters. My two sisters stayed in school for some one more month but later when the exercise books they were writing in got used up, I could not manage buying a book or a pen for them. So they also had to stop schooling. We stayed together at home and sometimes we could not have any food for lunch or supper.
By God’s endless mercy in December, 2018, Francis accepted us into the orphanage both I and my two siblings. Fortunately I was able to get a sponsor whom I am proud of. He pays my school fees and he sends me gifts. He is called Hans Bruggemann.
I am working very hard at school so that I can pass with good grades and become a doctor in future.
I am a single mother. I have 3 sons and 2 daughters. My first born is in Primary six and my last born has not yet started school.
I was born in poverty and I still live in poverty. I work as a gardener at Buhoma church and I get small payment per day I work.
My income is too small to sustain my family. I am not able to meet the family basic needs. I happened to be the beneficiary of the donation you sent to Bwindi Eco Children Uganda. They provided me with a hoe, a panga, seedlings and home based farming training. I was able to grow vegetables and now I produce enough vegetables for my home consumption and at times I have excess to sell. When I sell vegetables from my garden, I am able to earn extra income. Your support has greatly improved my family life. This term I was able to provide scholastic materials like books, pens and papers to my children using income from my home vegetable garden.
Thank you very much for educating us home farming skills and providing us with tools and seeds.
Allow to start by saying a big thank you to you all! The year 2021 was not an easy year for all of us. However, thanks to your support, Bwindi Eco Children Uganda continued to provide education and care to the children we serve.
This was only possible because of the generous donations we received from BUCC and other supporters. Amidst the challenges and restrictions surrounding the global pandemic, BUCC, children’s sponsors and other supporters stood with us throughout the year.
We understand what a sacrifice it is and we thank you very much. Your generosity shows the love you have for us. May the good Lord reward you abundantly! Bwindi Eco Children Uganda has not only survived the pandemic but we have also thrived and have taken greater heights in terms of development.
BUCC greatly supported us to recruit a school nurse and build a medical clinic. This provided us with a friendly officer with skills and compassion necessary to support the orphanage and school with needed health care. Our school nurse has been of great help during this global pandemic. She has taught our teachers, staff and children how to prevent the spread of Covid19. She has provided essential medical care to our 48 children who became sick of Covid19 where 46 of them have healed completely and the two are improving and we are hoping for their complete recovery. She was recently voted the best worker of the year at our school and received a prize from BUCC. The BUCC medical clinic shall continue providing health services to our children and all school neighbors.
Donations from BUCC benefited close to fifty families with seeds and tools and these families were able to make their gardens and produce food for own use at their homes. They no longer sleep hungry and their children are no longer malnourished.
BUCC helped us construct a borehole and we extend water to the neighboring community and our neighbors now have access to clean water.
Also with support from the Snisky family through BUCC, we have been able to construct a perimeter fence around the school for the safety of our children and school property. We appreciate the generosity of all the sponsors of the children we serve and we assure you of quality service to all the children.
Otherwise all the children and teachers are in good health and we are assured of treatment at BUCC clinic in any of any sickness or health challenge.
BECU needs your support in 2022 as well.
Your donation will bring health, happiness and hope to the children of Uganda.
Leaders of BECU recently held a ceremony honoring all teachers and awarding the school nurse with Worker of the Year along with $100 for her efforts. All the teachers enjoyed a special meal together during this ceremony.
“It’s a real motivation. Every staff member has promised to work hard in order to receive the same next year. It’s been a wonderful ceremony with all the teachers and staff recognizing the great achievement of Allia,” said BECU President and Founder, Francis Byamukama.
We’re also excited to share 12 of the sick children have recovered from Covid and are now in good health. The others are also improving.
Leaders of BECU hosted a Christmas party for the kids and students on campus this year. All 98 of the vulnerable children living at BECU received a specialized gift. Each teacher and staff member were given a bonus. In addition we were able to add to the chicken and goat projects.
Thank you to everyone who has supported BECU in 2021 and helped make it a successful year. We are completing two major projects now as well building a medical clinic and security fence around the campus.
The U.S. board of Bwindi Uganda Children Charities (BUCC) has approved the funds for the construction of a medical clinic on the campus of Bwindi Eco Children Uganda (BECU). The clinic will primarily benefit the children’s home and school, but the community at large may also seek treatment. There are approximately 500 children who will benefit from it directly.
Construction will take about one month to complete.
This project is the next step in our many efforts to help improve the health and care of the children.
About a year ago BECU hired a full-time trained nurse who will supervise the new clinic, and who works with the children to improve overall health, including malnutrition.
BECU also purchased of 8.25 acres of land to provide quality, healthy food for the children, along with a program for 500 chickens for meat and eggs and 50+ head of milk goats to supplement the meals being provided 3 times a day.
One of our most important steps in the effort to improve the students health was the addition of a 230 ft deep water well to provide the first clean drinking water for the school, which included a free community tap. The water has storage tanks and is piped to every building on campus as well as the chicken and mushroom farm.
Plans for 2022 call for the purchase of an additional 8.5 acres of land for growing food stuffs, a security fence around the property, and playground equipment.
We invite you to join our team and support the Lord’s work in Bwindi, Uganda.
God continues to bless the Bwindi ECO Children’s School with many blessings and gifts to his people there. The past 12 to 15 months have been a real challenge, with new issues developing almost daily. Currently, the Uganda Government has once again closed all schools in the country because of an increase in the number of COVID-19 cases. This time, however, COVID cases are being seen in Bwindi. On June 6, it was announced that all schools would be closed for 42 days effective June 7. In addition, there has been a ban on travel for all residents traveling out their local parish or district. As a result, the flow of food into the country and throughout the country has been disrupted and the price of food has doubled. People are unable to obtain food and with most jobs being lost, they are unable to afford any food. As a result, we are asking for your help for the families and orphans and vulnerable children at the school.
We believe the problem is twofold: 1) an immediate need for food and 2) a long term need to help the school and its families provide more food for themselves. BUCC has purchased two plots of land for the school and they have started to grow their own food stuffs, however, this is not enough to solve the immediate problems brought about by COVID-19.
As a result, we have set up three donation priorities that we believe will help:
We sponsored an Agricultural Sustainable Workshop in January 2021, with assistance from Helping Hands International, where 76 families were taught how to grow their own food. We have since learned that about 50 of these families were unable to buy the seeds and tools necessary to put the program into practice. So for $55.00, you can purchase a kit consisting of seeds, fertilizer, insecticides and basic tools to allow these people to grow their own food stuffs.
Expand the current chicken, goat and mushroom projects by 200 laying hens, 100 broilers, and 32 milk goats (including two males) and add to the mushroom project. Goats are $50.00 each, chickens are $15.00 for two. A contribution of $20.00 will allow a fund to be developed for $250.00 to increase the supply of mushrooms (fresh water is now available for both projects as the water well has a tap for this property)
We have learned that 15 families of orphans and vulnerable children are headed by an older child (there is no adult available for supervision of these children) and an additional 7 families are headed by an elderly woman, either a Mother or Grandmother. The total number of people in these families, which are attached to the school, is about 125 people. A food supplement for one family of 6 people for one month is $100.00. Any additional funds can be used for children gathering at the orphanage every day at breakfast and lunch asking for food, since they are hungry.
Please be in prayer for these people daily and also prayerfully consider how you can best help with the current and future needs. Please be generous. 100% of your donation will be sent to Bwindi.
